Last year was the first Shine the Light event here in Windsor. I jumped on the opportunity to involve our restaurant and raise awareness and needed funds for the Hiatus House located here in Windsor, Ontario.
This year I’m honoured to involve my new business and passion Smudge Metaphysical! 1506 Wyandotte Street East, Windsor, Ontario.
Growing up I endured physical, mental & emotional abuse at the hands of my mother. This pattern followed me into adulthood where I continued to repeatedly find myself in one abusive relationship after another. Through extensive counselling, group therapy, self-help and learning how to be aware of and change patterns within myself, I have overcome most of the effects and damage of this abuse. I am now able to be in a healthy relationship with myself and my partner. In my early 20’s I attended the Fresh Start program before going away to Westover for their Co-dependency week long in house program. Long ago I made a life long commitment to my mental and physical well being and I am glad to be able to share that with others and support these important and necessary services available from the Hiatus House.
The goals of the campaign are to raise awareness of men’s violence against women by turning cities, regions and counties purple for the month of November; to stand in solidarity with abused women and support them in understanding that any shame and/or blame they may feel does not belong to them but to the perpetrators of their abuse; and to raise the profile of the community agencies that can provide abused women with help as they attempt to live their lives free from violence and abuse.
Purple is a symbol of courage, survival and honour, and has come to symbolize the fight to end woman abuse. I invite local businesses, schools, places of worship, apartments and homes to go purple! Decorate with purple lights, balloons, streamers or any other purple supplies.
