During my life there are several people, organizations, and programs that have really made an impact on me in my journey to betterment. It has been a long one, but with hard work, many mistakes to learn from, and support from organizations like the Hiatus House, my children and I wouldn’t be where we are today.
It’s an honor for me to raise money and awareness for this amazing organization so they can continue to help families break the cycle of abuse. To continue to meet the growing demand of women, men and children who need help and support both mentally, physically and financially, it’s important for people like you and me to do our part to raise awareness, and also funds to keep these programs running.
Last Thursday, I was so touched and honored to receive and award of recognition from them at their annual meeting. It was a delicious dinner surrounded by wonderful people dedicated to helping people through the process of changing their life. Change isn’t an easy task. It takes hard work, dedication to the changes you need to make, a good support system and resources to help you create a healthier life. Incorporating spiritual, psychological and physical techniques are necessary to create successful change in your life. Hiatus House offers the help, support and programs to help people do just that.
Since I have opened Smudge, I have been able to bring more awareness to domestic violence & mental health, talking to people who come in seeking help, or message me privately online. I have been inspired by stories of survival, and by women overcoming the hardest obstacles to obtain a new and healthier life for their family. Even though I see a difference in people opening to receiving help with these issues, there still is a stigma that needs to be broken. The more we talk about it, do something about it in our own lives, and support others with an open heart, the bigger we create change, on a broader scale.
Being able to share my own story of childhood, and relationship abuse has not only been healing for myself, but it gives people the reassurance that they are not alone, not crazy, and it’s OK to get help. Domestic abuse comes in many forms and is not just limited to physical violence. If you are in an abusive situation, but are not sure what to do, or if you have questions, contact Hiatus House, and check out their website. There is always help and support for your situation.
